Lenovo's IdeaPad S12 and the Nvidia ION platform - Now we're talking

Ask anyone who knows me, and they would tell you that I'm not a supporter of the netbook. I think they're underpowered, and uncomfortable to use. While netbooks have grown in size and features, they still run on the Atom processor, and uses Intel's "ancient" platform.

But now with Nvidia's ION platform for the Atom processor, netbooks are getting interesting. Netbooks may finally have some processor gumption to take on more challenging tasks.

According to LaptopMag, Nvidia's ION platform is capable of 1080p output via HDMI. It also supports graphic accelerated video editing on supported applications. And perhaps most interesting to me, is what Nvidia's senior product manager says the ION platform is capable of - "Play an HD or Blu-ray moview on the notebook with it connected to an external display at the same time you’re transcoding and you’ll still see perfectly flawless video." And he even said you could surf the web at the same time.

Awesome. I can't wait for the first reviews of the Lenovo's IdeaPad S12, a netbook on the ION platform that combines an Atom processor with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics processor.
