The iPhone for Malaysians, by Maxis. If you can afford it or not, is another matter.

Fellow MPC members have a thread with details about the iPhone and the call plans from Maxis. According to the Maxis iPhone page, the data charges are only for GPRS, with a 24-month, 12-month and 6-month plan.

The cheapest plan is the i-Value 1, with a RM100 monthly charge for 24-months, and you still have to fork out RM1900 for an 8GB iPhone, or RM2290 for the 16GB version. The most expensive plan is the Value Plus 500 with a monthly charge of RM500 for 6-months, and that would get you a 8GB iPhone for RM2540, and 16GB for RM2960. Or you could get the 8GB iPhone for free by subscribing to the 24-month i-Value 4 plan for RM375 a month.

The call plans are pretty complicated, but from my experience, that's typical of Maxis. And the prices are exorbitant! Looks like I'm not getting an iPhone any time soon.

Update
Maxis' new iPhone page now no longer states GPRS data, instead it now says, "Data included in i-Value Plans applies to mobile Internet usage only". So I guess that could mean the data is either 3G or GPRS depending on coverage. Also, you can read the news report of the iPhone over at The Star Online.

Yeah I find this pretty BS as well...
When I heard about the contracts I was thinking they were giving away the found for free with 2 years contract... Now we sign up to a contract and we still have to pay for the phone???

Maxis mah, for VVIP to use only, but i think the Value Plan is pretty aright, 6 mth contract, and u pay about the same as the grey import ones, but of course this is with warranty la
