by bengsun iPhone 3G S

Are you like me feeling disappointed after Apple's keynote last night? They have launched the much waited iPhone 3G S in SF and for your information, the "S" is stands for speedier. In terms of hardware spec, it offers up to 32GB storage, 7.2Mbps HSDPA (from 3.6Mbps), 3MP auto-focus camera with video/macro mode, a compass, a speedier processor (don't forget 2G has 532MHz while 3G 412MHz) where Apple choose not to disclose this round, and a longer battery life. The newer model also lowering the entry price of 8GB iPhone 3G to $99 (with contract). So what do you think about the iPhone 3G S?

by Louis Yong Lenovo's IdeaPad S12 and the Nvidia ION platform - Now we're talking

Ask anyone who knows me, and they would tell you that I'm not a supporter of the netbook. I think they're underpowered, and uncomfortable to use. While netbooks have grown in size and features, they still run on the Atom processor, and uses Intel's "ancient" platform.

But now with Nvidia's ION platform for the Atom processor, netbooks are getting interesting. Netbooks may finally have some processor gumption to take on more challenging tasks.

More after the jump.

by Louis Yong Zune HD Confirmed By Microsoft

Microsoft announces an update to their Zune device - Zune HD. The name is a little misleading because I was expecting a high-def screen like Touch HD. Instead the HD in Zune HD is not referring to the screen. Instead it's referring to the built-in HD Radio receiver that provides higher quality audio compared to normal radio. Then there's HD video output (720p) via an optional HDMI dock.

The screen is a 3.3-inch, 16:9 widescreen OLED display with a resolution of 480x272 pixels. It may seem a little low, but I guess it's still acceptable considering the size of the device. I don't think HD video would look any better on a higher resolution screen on such a small device.

You can read Microsoft's press release here, and take a peek at Zune HD's microsite.

by Louis Yong TrustedReviews reviews the HTC Touch Diamond 2

The HTC Touch Diamond 2 was recently reviewed at MPC and I enjoyed spending what little time I had with it. It looked and felt gorgeous, and worked pretty well for a Windows Mobile device.

You can read my review, and if you want more, check out TrustedReviews where you can find some test shots out of the 5 megapixel camera.

by Louis Yong A Dell for kids, the Latitude 2100

Laptop Mag has a review of the Dell Latitude 2100, a netbook targeted at the education market. It has all you'd expect for a netbook, ie an Atom processor, RAM and OS, like the Inspiron Mini. However, Dell is targeting the Latitude 2100 at kids in kindergarten, all the way to the eighth grade (Form two for us in Malaysia?). So Dell made sure the Latitude 2100 is going to survive the abuse.

It's covered in a rubber casing so it's grippy and tough. And there's an activity light on top of the lid to show network activity, so the teachers know that the kids aren't browsing the web when they're supposed to be doing their work. But according to Laptop Mag, the activity light can also be adapted for other uses, like combined with an education software so the light will flash when the student has completed a task.

by Louis Yong My Phone beta now open to all

If you're using a Windows Mobile device, you can go check out Microsoft's My Phone service. Although it is still in beta, and will remain beta until Windows Mobile 6.5 arrives into the scene, My Phone will back up information such as text messages, contacts, photos and calendar items. 200MBs worth of storage.

However, Microsoft's My Phone is going to be much more than that when it's ready. How about remote data wipe on a lost handset? Or making the phone ring even when you've set the phone to vibrate mode, to help you look for your phone when you've forgotten where you've left it?

Some of the service will be free, and some you're expected to pay. Details over at Macworld UK.

by Louis Yong A review of the Jawbone PRIME Bluetooth headset

People who wear Bluetooth headsets are a rarity nowadays, based on my casual observation during my lunch hour. Maybe it has gotten out of fashion to wear the large earpiece with the flashing blue lights in public. Or maybe everyone's just waiting for the Jawbone PRIME.

Apart from it's discreet design, it's also chock-full of technical stuff -

Quote:
Jawbone PRIME uses an algorithm that digitally fuses together the best audio from its two electret microphones (the clean preserved high-end frequencies of speech) and its patented Voice Activity Sensor (the low-end frequencies of speech) to create a single, natural sounding speech signal.

Just reading the marketing material got me excited about the Jawbone PRIME. While I don't have one to review, you can read someone else's review over at The Apple Blog.

by Louis Yong Windows Mobile 7 details begin to appear

I just complained about the lack of multi-touch support in Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional in my review of the HTC Diamond 2. And it seems Microsoft knows that people want multi-touch and is going to support it according to this blog post by Mary Jo Foley.

She's gotten some possible specifications for upcoming Windows Mobile 7 phones, referring them as WM7 Chassis 1 Specifications. Among them is a requirement for multi-touch.

Have a look at the specs for WM7 here, although she does say that the information is at least a few months old, and may have changed.

by Louis Yong HTC Diamond 2

HTC certainly made quite an impression amongst smartphone users when the company released the Diamond, and later the Diamond Pro. The minimalist front draws the eyes to the beautiful TouchFLO 3D interface, while the quirky bevelled rear reinforces the device's namesake - a diamond. It may be a little pretentious, but it worked. The HTC Diamond with its luxurious and user-focused design, a touch-friendly interface that hides the flaw that is Windows Mobile's GUI, was a hit among discerning users. Can HTC trump the Diamond with the Diamond 2? Read on to find out.
